Some days refuse to end cleanly.
Shouting colleagues, a misaligned team, and a disappointed boss – I had experienced all within eight hours.
The initiative I was leading faced many threats – technical, political, and business – any one of which could stall the program if mishandled.
I poured a drink after I got home and sat in the reclining chair on the balcony of my apartment.
With a bad day behind me, I looked into the sky – an abyss.
The city lights and the concrete jungle had hidden most of the stars.
Just the rising moon was visible. As I swirled the glass and took a sip, I closed my eyes and relaxed.
“Water does not seek approval to act.”
There he was, I thought, and opened my eyes.
He was sitting beside me.
“It advances wherever space exists, without debate, delay, or declaration. The void disappears not because of force, but because its presence meets opportunity.”
He smiled and said, “Water succeeds by readiness, not by negotiation. It adapts instantly to form, pressure, and direction, yet never questions its right to occupy what is unclaimed.”
His words had left me looking inside.
Thinking about the events of the day and the past few weeks.
Effectiveness belongs to those already in motion when gaps appear.
Advantage rarely announces itself.
It is exploited by those prepared to flow when others are still deciding whether they should move at all.
I looked at him. Nothing about him had changed.
Flowing white hair and beard.
Those eyes still sparkled.
Nothing had changed.
We sat together and watched the night.
The moon had risen.
