You have seen this before!

that the workplace relies on a few people…

It doesn’t happen because they were chosen.
It doesn’t happen because they asked for it.
It happens slowly.

Work begins to find them.

Responsibility settles around them.
Expectations begin to rise without being stated.

…over time, they become the ones work begins to move through.

This too you have seen before!

  • Consistency does not reduce load. It attracts it.

  • Silence is not absence. It is often absorption.

  • Effort does not always become visible. It becomes expected, however.

Have you ever wondered why the workplace leans on a few?

John too showed up. Anyway.

Insightful black-and-white caricature of Puneet Kuthiala, writer on influence and power, writing in a library. Hello,

You know John.
I know him better.

I am Johnny, the witness, who has had existence of a footnote. Indispensable piece of information to the main text. Yet, ignored, neglected, sitting in the margins. Thus, the world knows me as Johnny, The Footnote.

I have been with john ever since he entered the system. You can read more about me here. And that should be enough.

I have been going through my footnote archives. Revisiting the absurdities John has quietly endured. You know them as The Natural Laws of Bullshit from The Footnote.

However much the system threw at him, he remained.
Work gathered around him. Outcomes followed.
The absurdities did not disappear. Some of them affected him directly.

And yet, John showed up.
Not untouched. Not unbothered. But without losing himself to them.

Here is his story  And Yet, John Showed Up and The Choice John Made.
