Law of Safe Spaces – Safety Ends where Truth Begins

Safe spaces are announced with enthusiasm.
Conditions arrive with pushback.

From the Footnote:

  • John joined a Psychological Safety Forum.
  • The Boss encouraged honesty.
  • The Diplomat assured the room that all voices mattered.
  • The Communicator declared it judgment-free—and opened a live notes document visible to leadership.

An engineer questioned a decision.
She was thanked for her courage.
Two days later, she was coached on how to handle work.

A New Joiner raised workload concerns.
He was praised for speaking up.
He was quietly removed from the next meeting cycle to protect his well-being.
Safety returned immediately.

Recovered Slack messages (private channel, same afternoon):

Strategist: Brave point earlier. Maybe not the proper forum, though.
Fixer: Yeah. Tone matters in those spaces.
Vanisher: She’s not wrong, just… a bit intense 😬
Diplomat: We should protect the space. Feedback like that can create negativity.
(Thread archived. No reply from her.)

The Survivor said less.
The Burnt-Out Star stopped attending.

Johnny’s Footnotes is a satirical instrument, infused with humour, for understanding organisational dysfunction, grounded in The Anatomy of Nonsense, also known as the Grand Unified Theory of Bullshit, finally documented so you no longer have to pretend it isn’t happening.

Disclaimer:  The Footnote is a satire — an observation, not an accusation. If it feels uncomfortably accurate, that’s just coincidence. You’re simply not important enough to be targeted.
